I recalled a conversation with a friend in 2019, he visited me and we spent a night together.

We had conversations about childbearing, marriage, and most importantly, early retirement.

He made me understand that it is possible for us to retire at 50.

This is what he meant; before 50 years, you could have 2 houses (personal and rental), 2 cars, and enough funds to send kids to school till they graduate from the university.

It means that you have 2-3 kids, but you have adequately planned for their education.

When they need tuition fees, you do not have to develop HBP suddenly because you have no idea where the money will come from.

I was curious, so I asked him more questions.

With this, you can take care of their education without much hassles.

But here is the secret to retiring early, it is contentment.

If you don't have this, you will likely work till you are 75 years old, as long as you keep chasing money.

Retirement, according to my friend, is not about how many billions you have made.

It is about proper planning of your finance and contentment.

This morning, I asked myself; Abimbola, can you truly retire at 50?

Like not worrying about house rent, car maintenance, school fees, and food anymore at 50?

Sigh!

This is possible, but hard to achieve.

However, I have been able to dig some useful knowledge about retirement as applicable to Africans, most especially Nigerians.

Because what works in UK and US may not work here.

I don't know how old you are, but I want to tell you today that the earlier you start planning for retirement, the better it is for you.

Even if you are just 20 years old, don't feel bad about retirement conversations
