Let's have a friendly conversation on the subject of self-taught with respect to cryptocurrency trading and investing.

Let us be factual, the compound word 'self-taught' is grossly misunderstood and misused by all of us.

This gotta stop now, please be patient with me for 3 minutes and read my opinion.

For clarity, I will use a car as an example.

When you are self-taught, it means that you got a car, opened its doors, look for where the ignition is, then began to press anything that is press-able, and you engage anything that is engageable until you are able to figure out how to drive a car correctly.

In the modern world, only a dummy will follow this method:)

Alright, while you are doing this, it is possible that you matched the acceleration pedal, the car flew into a build and wreck havoc.

Well, it is an expected outcome because you are self-teaching yourself how to drive your car.

After destroying 2 to 3 cars, getting hard feedback, and correcting your mistakes, you will keep getting better as long as your skeletal systems are still in good condition.

After all these challenges, if you are able to drive a car correctly, you can go to the internet and proudly tell everyone that cares to listen that you are a self-taught driver.

Hey, listen to me.

If at any point in your adventure, you got tired and decide to search for video tutorials on how to switch from D1 to N, you will lose your self-taught badge!

Even if you phone a friend, use ChatGPT, or make a simple search on Google, your self-taught badge is no longer valid.

Lols, can you see how hard it is to self-teach yourself?

Okay.

What 99% of those who claimed to be 'self-taught' are doing is 'self-learning.'

Wait a minute, I will explain it.

You are self-learning if you ever leverage existing free materials like video tutorials, podcasts, blog posts, articles, phone calls to a friend for solutions, asking for help in group chat, and so on.

If you do all of these, and you still say that you are self-taught, you are robbing content creators, you are disregarding the free help they rendered to you.

I like to say these, 99% of self-taught gangs are self-learning.

Self-learning is pretty cool and highly encouraged, we are living in an era where people are motivated to learn at their own pace.

The risk of self-teaching is 1000X higher than the risk of self-learning.

Even though self-learning carries its own risk too, it is lower when you compare it to self-teaching.

These days, most people learn financial market trading on their own, but they make far greater mistakes than those who learned under senior traders.

They are supervised, they avoid unnecessary mistakes and they are somehow accountable to their supervisors. This is the advantage of proper learning or formal education.

Through this letter, I hope that I have been able to educate you on the difference between self-taught, self-learning, and proper education.

However, you are free to make a choice. And I believe that when you are having a conversation, you know the proper word to use while you are talking about your learning process.

I am not self-taught, I am self-learned and I also leveraged proper education as far as cryptocurrency trading and investing is concerned.
